The optional 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 delivers a powerful 283PS with 340N.m of net torque and is equipped with twin independent variable camshaft timing. With conventional valve timing, intake and exhaust valves have to open and close at a fixed point in time, but the Ti-VCT allows for variable control of the timing. This translates to aggressive performance across the entire range of the power band no matter what the driving conditions are.
For more spirited driving, there is the Ford Edge Sport powered by our dynamic 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 engine that kicks out 340 PS with 542 N.m of net torque. This not only makes it one of the most powerful V6, but it makes the Ford Edge Sport a thrill to drive.
Intelligent AWD has sensors which constantly monitor how much traction is between your wheels and the road. It balances torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, meaning that it’s smart enough to know when wheelslip is about to occur and moves to correct it.
The Ford Edge comes equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, for those times when you want more control, there are paddle shifters behind the steering wheel allowing you to manually select your gear.
The next evolution in steering technology, the system controls the relationship between the steering wheel and tire’s turn ratio, depending on speed. Which means at low-speeds it requires less rotations of the steering wheel to park or maneuver.
For a drive that is both more dynamic and more controlled, the Ford Edge Sport comes with a sports-tuned suspension that is suited for city driving with its tight handling, agility and suspension.
By powering your steering with electric (as opposed to hydraulic) power, Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) is quicker to react to irregularities in the road and thus improves steering feel. It also features drift compensation, a technology that helps offset the pulling or drifting that can affect the vehicle in crosswinds or uneven roads.
Get the benefits of a limited-slip front differential without the complexity or additional weight. It uses the Edge’s braking system to balance the distribution of engine torque to the front wheels based on both driving conditions and available traction. When cornering, this helps keep the vehicle on the path intended by the driver which is particularly helpful on wet or slippery surfaces.
Usually gaining comfort in the cabin means losing control on the road, but with a suspension featuring friction-reducing geometry, the Ford Edge gives you a smooth ride and impressive handling at the same time. We’ve also engineered the frame for added strength and stiffness while at the same time isolating the cabin from vibrations for increased comfort.
In braking situations, EBD automatically varies the amount of force applied to each wheel in order to maximize stopping power while at the same time preventing wheel lock up and skidding. The braking system constantly monitors what the optimal braking conditions would be based on: speed and road conditions. It will even further adjust the force applied to each wheel based on the current cargo or people load in the vehicle.
It’s technology engineered to give you more confidence behind the wheel and an overall more engaging drive. There are so many innovations, one drive in your Ford Edge and you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them.1
The Ford Edge is equipped with so many innovative technologies, you’ll wonder how you got along without them. Whether they’re working behind the scenes or sitting right there in the cabin with you, they all add up to ensure you have a more pleasant drive.
The Ford Edge is available with a 180° camera tucked into its front grille. At low speeds, the camera is activated and displayed on the dashboard. So whether it's pulling out into traffic from a blind spot or just exiting a tough parking position, you can literally see around corners.1
Simply activate this feature in any parking lot and it will begin scanning for an empty spot. Once Park Assist finds one, ultrasonic sensors measure the distance between your vehicle and both other vehicles and the curb, and turns the wheel accordingly. All you have to do is select the right gear and control the acceleration and braking as directed.1
We’ve made parallel or perpendicular parking effortless. Available Enhanced Active Park Assist uses 12 ultrasonic sensors around the Ford Edge to guide it into almost any parking space. It turns the wheel for you so all you have to do is put the Ford Edge into gear and control the acceleration and braking as directed.1
The rear view camera comes as standard equipment in every Ford Edge. It provides a video image on the center console screen of the area directly behind your vehicle when you put it in the reverse gear, giving you a clearer view of what is behind you.1
The optional BLIS® with cross-traffic alert warn you should there be a vehicle in your blind spot. It uses radar to scan the adjacent lanes and displays an indicator light in your exterior mirrors should it sense a vehicle. Furthermore, it helps detect traffic approaching from the sides when reversing out of parking spots. This feature is included in the available Technology Package.1
Ford's Lane-keeping System detects lane markings and will warn you should you inadvertently stray from your lane. It will send small vibrational pulses to the steering wheel and even apply steering torque if needed, prompting you to steer back toward the center of your lane. The Ford Edge also comes equipped with a Driver Alert System which monitors activity and suggests taking a break from driving if it believes you need one.2
Adaptive cruise control represents a major step beyond conventional cruise control. Using a radar sensor, it keeps an eye on traffic ahead and will slow down if the vehicle in front of you does the same. After traffic clears, it will return you to your desired speed. You can even set the distance you wish to maintain between you and the car in front of you. There is also a forward collision warning which will alert you, should it think a crash is imminent and can even begin to apply the brakes for you.1
As long as you have your intelligent access key on you, you can open the back liftgate even when your hands are full. The hands-free, foot-activated liftgate lets you wave your foot underneath the rear bumper to open the liftgate automatically. You can even adjust liftgate height which is useful if you are under a low overhang.
If you’ve stopped on a steep hill, the standard hill start assist feature will automatically engage the brake to prevent backward roll, only releasing it when your foot presses the accelerator.
Inside and out the Ford Edge projects substance and style. From the outside you’ll notice the bold and distinctive lines. Climb behind the wheel and you’ll constantly notice the little touches designed to pamper you and make every drive a delight.
The Ford Edge projects substance and style with a presence that’s hard to ignore. From engineering to design, this is a visionary vehicle in more ways than one, exhibiting a tangible sense of modernity and impressive quality.
With its power dome hood, raised beltlines and sculpted shoulders around the wheel arches, the Ford Edge commands a striking pose. Its impressive look includes wheels that are positioned at the corners to give it a wide, aggressive stance on the road.
Using the same technology that is found in noise-cancelling headphones, Active Noise Control measures disruptive sound waves (such as unwanted road noise) and cancels them out. Even more amazingly, it enhances the pleasurable sounds like the throaty growl of the engine to improve your driving experience.
With the 7-color programmable ambient lighting feature, you can set the mood inside the cabin. Standard on the Ford Edge Titanium and Sport trims, it uses LEDs to illuminate the front footwells, storage bins and cupholders, amongst others. Choose from Ice Blue®, Orange, Soft Blue, Red, Green, Blue or Purple.
Components include full Digital Sound Processor capabilities, 390 watts of power and 12 Sony® speakers including a rear subwoofer. It comes with a single-CD player which is MP3-capable.1
Available SYNC® with MyFord Touch® voice-activated technology lets you control your car with the power of your voice, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel.2
The Ford Edge can seat five adults in comfort so there’s no shortage for room. High-quality details like satin silver and ebony black finishes are highlighted through the interior to lend an air of luxury. Furthermore, the whole cabin features smart design and a meticulous attention to detail.
Not only can elegance and craftsmanship been seen all around, it can be seen above you as well. The optional Panoramic Vista Roof features a large forward panel that can either be tilted up or opened fully for the feeling of fresh air in your face. There is also a fixed rear skylight, so it lets in more of the world above whether you are sitting in the front or the back.
The Ford Edge is equipped with a slew of safety features that gives you a more comfortable and safer drive. From roll bars to emergency braking to passive and active passenger protection, you will enjoy your ride more knowing you’re in safe hands.
Safety is standard in the Ford Edge. First there is Advance Trac® with Roll stability Control™ and Curve Control. Next there are the airbags with dual-stage front airbags, side-impact airbags, glovebox door-integrated knee airbag and a driver's knee airbag. Last but not least there is the second-row Safety Canopy® with rollover sensor to protect the occupants should a roll-over occur.1
Emergency Brake Assist helps your vehicle achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. It's controlled automatically via the Electronic Stability Control system which senses how much pressure you've applied to the brake yourself and automatically increases that pressure if necessary.
There is also the optional Rear Outboard Inflatable Seatbelts. In the event of an impact, the belts inflate and spread the crash forces over a five times larger area of the body than conventional seat belts to minimize injury.
This is designed to help protect the engine from potential damage due to loss of coolant. If the engine overheats, the engine will switch from normal all-cylinder operation to alternating cylinder operation. The non-powered cylinders act as air pumps to help cool the powered cylinders. The vehicle will continue to operate but with limited engine power. This allows the driver to travel a short distance to obtain service or reach a service facility.
An electronic stability control system that helps the driver maintain vehicle stability in adverse driving situations or when making evasive maneuvers on slippery pavement. It monitors vehicle’s cornering behavior with steering angle, lateral acceleration and yaw rate sensors. If there is a problem it automatically makes braking and throttle adjustments to help maintain control whenever it detects wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion using Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and traction control components. Activates whenever the vehicle is started, but may be turned off in certain situations.2
Works in conjunction with Advance Trac® with RSC (Roll stability Control Control™) to help drivers maintain control of their vehicle if they are taking a curve too quickly. Using sensors it runs calculations measuring how quickly the vehicle is turning and compares that with how quickly the driver is trying to turn. If the vehicle either enters a curve too fast or the vehicle is not turning as much as the driver wants, Curve Control responds by rapidly reducing torque and increasing brake pressure to help keep the vehicle under control and help the driver follow the intended path.2
Recognizes when the brake pedal is applied suddenly but without enough force to provide full deceleration. With brake assist, the system engages the appropriate pressure to maximize vehicle deceleration and help reduce stopping distance. Without the brake assist feature, the result could be a longer stopping distance than desired. Once the driver releases the brake pedal, the vehicle returns to normal braking mode.2
Solid unibody construction provides an energy-absorbing structure to help protect occupants. Bumper-to-bumper flow-through side rails, structural design and A-pillars are designed to move crash energy away from occupants. Energy-absorbing crash structure makes extensive use of high-strength steel to absorb and redirect crash forces around the occupants. Energy-absorbing side door trim helps move crash energy away from occupants. Side-intrusion door beams help prevent intrusion into the passenger compartment in a side-impact collision.
The Ford Edge’s Personal Safety System tailors airbag usage based on the severity of the crash, driver and passenger safety belt use, driver seat position and passenger classification. Sensors help the Ford Edge determine how many passengers are in the vehicle, their position and their safety belt usage. It couples this with an electronic front crash severity sensor to determine exactly which airbags should be deployed to best handle impact and minimize passenger damage.
The Panoramic Vista Roof was extensively tested for wind noise. Wind testing was done at multiple angles and different speeds to ensure that the Panoramic Vista Roof is closed. It only lets in the light and scenery, but not any disturbing noise.
Inside and out, the Ford Edge has been designed to pamper. No matter if you are in the front or back, you will appreciate all the major and minor touches that have been incorporated to make every journey in your Ford Edge a pleasant one. Be it the lack of wind noise or the smoothness of the ride, you can’t help but notice the attention to detail that has been taken with your comfort in mind.
The Ford Edge has been designed from the top down to ensure comfort, quality and
quiet. From insulation to aerodynamics, it has been engineered to ensure a ride that
pampers you every step of the way.
Both the 2.7L and twin-scroll 2.0L come equipped with air induction system resistive silencers. These silencers are implemented in turbo ducts to minimize high frequency noises created by the turbocharger system. They also feature acoustic engine covers as well as engine and transmission hydromounts to reduce vibrations. Furthermore, the 2.7L Edge Sport has an optimized powertrain mounting system to control engine and transmission vibrations and keep unwanted sounds out of the vehicle. It also has Active Noise Control to optimize sound quality, canceling low frequency unwanted engine noise to deliver refinement during acceleration and idle events.
The interior of the Ford Edge has been designed to keep unwanted noises out. Throughout the interior, Sound Pack has been used to reduce high-frequency noise. Sound-deadening material has also been sonic welded behind most interior trim panels to further help lower interior noise. Towards the front, lightweight dash panel insulation absorbs noise from the engine. The Titanium and Sport trims, meanwhile, also have acoustic windshields, front side glass and headliners to help further dampen noise levels.
The Ford Edge has a completely redesigned front and rear suspension and body structure to better isolate road imperfection and absorb noise without compromising handling. Its new solid body structure uses more high-strength steels providing an enhanced platform for the new suspension to work. Compared to the previous generation Edge, the all-new model features a 26% increase in stiffness when reacting to bending forces and 16% increase in stiffness when reacting to twisting forces.
The front fascia and underbody shields have been designed to contribute to low wind noise levels. Care was even taken in the shape of the side mirrors specifically to reduce wind noise.
